Bell Homestead National Historic Site Bell Homestead National Historic Site

The first Canadian residence of Professor A. Melville Bell and his family after their emigration from Scotland and England in 1870. It was here on July 26th, 1874, that the Bell's son, Alexander Graham Bell, discovered the fundamental principle of the telephone. Today, the Bell's home stands restored as they knew it, with an eclectic collection of original family furnishings and household items. Complementing a tour is a visit at Canada's first telephone business office, neighbouring the Homestead. Be sure to visit our gift shop and award-winning cafe.
